Istanbul With The Lads

istanbul-with-the-lads

About a month or so ago i went to Istanbul for a week with about 10 friends of mine plus a few wags for my mate Mizon’s wedding. In the few days prior to flying i was feeling abit down in the dumps for some reason, i was in a really horribly depressing place actually. My head was all over the shop so much so that i was genuinely considering blowing out the whole trip. I occasionally have these really blue moments every 3-4 months for some reason, proper weirdo i am, lol. However, after a few chats with with ex girlfriend Kels i snapped out of it and stopped being an absolute tool. Immediately after meeting up with all the lads i felt great again and was sooo glad i decided to go, i would have hated myself if i’d had sacked it off, especially as it was such an awesome trip…

I won’t go into any major details otherwise this post will turn into a mini essay plus my memory is a little hazy but obviously the first night we all got completely mashed and we ended up in some random Karaoke Bar which was pure comedy. Most nights usually involved drinking and eating kebabs tbh. The main beer was called Ffes and the Kebabs were incred, its pretty much all i ate!

Everyday we were busy doing different things and exploring the City and doing a ton of sight seeing etc. I love all that stuff tbh, much rather that than getting ball bagged every night and not really enjoying your days as much as a consequence of a heavy night. We checked out Galaturk Tower which was pretty cool and is apparently the oldest tower in the world, Istanbul is full of historic old buildings. We roamed around various funky markets and shopping malls etc, minced around the local marina and also spent a day travelling up the Bosphorus by boat and checked out these nutter ancient mosque things. One of these mosque resembled something out of Tomb Raider, i think it was called Sofia Mosque or something and had a kinda eerie feeling about it, it was a pretty cool place.

One day we took a mission of a trip just to find a beach and an outdoor pool where we could lounge about in the sun and catch some rays. I dont mind all that stuff as i quite like laying in the sun and bronzing up the little moobies and ‘six’ pack myself. In the evening we visited the Grand Bazar which is this crazy underground maze like labyrinth shopping place where its sooo easy to get lost and then later that night chilled with a load of top notch Kebabs, Ffes and some Shisha.

On one night we got smashed at some open air club next to the sea which was awesome and we didn’t get back to the until about about 7am ish, good times. The whole trip was superb actually thinking back, just what i needed to sort out my mashed up mind. Always good to be around your mates, we had such a laugh, done our fair share of tourist stuff, ate a million kebabs and sank a load of beers, love it!

Oh, i haven’t even mentioned the wedding yet, that was wicked too. We had to move to another hotel across the Bosphorus and meet up with a few more friends who had come over for just two nights, lightweights! Did you know half of Istanbul is based in Europe and the other half is situated in Asia? Little bit of Amatay general knowledge for you there fans. Anyway the wedding was great, loadsa banter, drink flowing, everyone looking very dapper and me dancing turkish style, *facepalm*. Everything seemed to go according to the script, apart from a Belly Dancer stacking it twice in the first 10 seconds of her routine! She did regain her composure well thou and i was delighted for my mate Miz that everything went so smoothly, he’s a top bloke.

Poker news up until this holiday wasn’t overly exciting and probably contributed to my somewhat depressive state prior to the trip. From what i remember i was break even at PLO cash with the help of rb and i’d had some small wins in mtt’s but nothing at all of any note. Obviously volume levels were terrible, standard. I’ve since dropped the PLO for the moment because i’m rubbish at it and i’ve played more mtt’s with decent results. I’ll write more on that in my next post which is all ready written and will be up in a few days, laters.
